Epic & The Encryption Module – Outbound Faxing
Host: Jeff Kunstler | Video Duration: 01:41
When a user sends a fax using RightFax, the image is converted to a .tif and moved to the RightFax image directory until it is decrypted and delivered to its final destination. So, as you can see in this diagram, Epic > EPS > Document Repository > Integration Module grabs it, but now, when you’re storing these faxes at rest, in that image directory folder in the bottom right, they are being encrypted. So now, if your system is every compromised, either through someone browsing and finding the image directory or the entire computer itself such as the hard drive is compromised, there’s no way to view the individual images because they are encrypted.
This module adds a layer of security by preventing any unauthorized viewing of fax images in the RightFax Image Directory structure. This encryption key, which is predefined and cannot be changed, relies on the SUID of the RightFax server and acts as an additional layer of security to protect sensitive content and information. Since all nodes share the same Image Directory, all fax images, regardless of node, are protected. So let me go into that a little more. A lot of you might have a RightFax collective or for people who don’t have RightFax and are looking for a redundant RightFax system, if you have multiple RightFax servers sharing one image folder and one SQL database, the call that a collective, you only need to do one encryption module. One encryption module per directory so they share the same image directory.
